Controller

Department: Finance and Accounting
Location: Atlanta, GA

Position Summary

This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer and is responsible to oversight of all accounting and reporting activities for the organization. The Controller will work closely with program leaders and their staff, not only to educate them regarding finance and accounting procedures but also to explore how the finance function can support program operations. In addition, the Controller will partner with the CFO, senior leadership, human resources, and IT to enhance and better integrate accounting, HR, and IT functions.

Role and Responsibilities

The primary duties include but are not limited to the following:

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Lead and manage the day-to-day accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, costs accounting, and general ledger with precision, timeliness, and accuracy.
  • Lead and manage the accuracy of the month end-close and financial statement preparations.
  • Work with the CFO and the Sr. Financial Planning Analyst in the annual budgeting and planning process, administer and review all financial plans and compare to actual results with a view to identify, explain and correct variances as appropriate.
  • Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Manage and track organizational cash flow with CFO; continuously collaborate with program managers to assess the financial efficacy of program operations and establish finance and administrative systems to support program operations.
  • Maintain internal controls and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, program budgets and actual expenditures.
  • Continuously improve efficiency in business processes within accounting.
  • Oversee, develop, and improve financial policies and procedures.
  • Support the CFO in engaging CHRIS 180’s board of directors’ audit and finance committees.
  • Assist CFO in the coordination of the external audit process.

Leadership

  • Attend and participate in all meetings and supervision as required and in accordance with CHRIS 180 policy and procedures
  • Lead the performance management process for direct reports involving goal setting, define expectations, giving feedback, coaching, motivating/recognizing employees, and managing the corrective action process to maximize and reach optimal individual and organizational goals.
  • Provide leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the organization; create and promote a positive and supportive work environment.
  • Directly supervise Accounting Manager and Finance Coordinator.

Customer Service

  • Demonstrate exceptional customer service
  • Provide timely responses to CHRIS 180 staff concerning accounting and finance questions
  • Provide comprehensive financial updates to senior leadership by evaluating, analyzing, and reporting appropriate data points
  • Adhere to CHRIS 180 Code of Conduct, Code of Ethics, and our mission, vision, and values.
  • Maintain consumers’ confidentiality.
  • Support and maintain an environment of emotional and physical safety for consumers, staff, and other stakeholders at all times.

Qualifications/Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree, or a Master’s in accounting with a minimum of 7 years of relative work experience
  • CPA or CPA Candidate preferred
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience working in a non-profit organization
  • At least 3 years of supervisory experience
  • Intermediate knowledge of Excel and Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of Sage Intacct accounting software
  • Financial planning and analysis experience
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects and priorities
  • Effective time management skills
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Solid analytical and organizational skills

Salary: $120,000 - $140.000

Other

  • Serve as the administrator for financial accounting software
  • Maintain detailed files, documentation, and billing requirements in a timely manner in accordance with CHRIS 180 policy and compliance standards
  • Maintain certifications/trainings and provide information to HR and Training in a timely manner

Schedule:

This is a full-time position and typically works Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm but requires flexibility. Hybrid work schedule.
